As another summer comes to a close, we're bidding farewell to our marketing intern, Liam McCarty. This was Liam's second stint with us, so he jumped right into the thick of it immediately, collaborating on major projects for Curator while building connections across the Reynolds campus.
As he wraps up his time with us, we sat down with Liam to talk about his biggest takeaways from another summer with Gubagoo!
What’s next for you?
Next week I will be starting my Senior year at The Ohio State University. I’m majoring in Political Science and History, with a minor in Economics. Will also be applying to Law school in the coming months.
What was the best part about being on the Reynolds campus this year?
The best part about being on Reynolds campus this year was working with a great team and getting to build connections with interns across different departments.
What was your favorite part about working with the Gubagoo Marketing team?
Curator was a new product I got to learn about; it opens a lot of doors for dealers. Virtual Retailing and Chat were the sole focus when I was with the team two summers ago. The team was larger this time so I got to collaborate more and take on more diverse responsibilities.
What is your biggest piece of advice for future interns?
My advice for future interns would be to branch out and try new things while you work at Reynolds. There’s a lot of great people who work here, not only in your department but across the company. Taking the time to set up a job shadow or a coffee chat with someone in an area you would be interested in goes a long way.
As you know, we loved our Jeopardy trivia time during team standups. You were never afraid to go all in on Final Jeopardy days, risking every dollar. Where did you get this confidence?
James Holzhauer is my favorite Jeopardy champion. The way he dominated Jeopardy and wasn’t afraid to risk it all in daily doubles or final jeopardy is what inspired me. I like to think of Jeopardy a lot like playing poker or running a business: it takes money to make money. So that’s why I decided it was in my best interest to wager big.
Favorite jersey from the world cup?
I think Argentina’s jerseys are awesome.
Predict Ohio State’s record this season.
16-0.
Best spot around Dayton for golf?
I highly recommend checking out the Mound Golf Course, it’s inexpensive so beginners can hack a round for a few hours without breaking the bank. It also has some fun and difficult holes that are challenging for more experienced players. It is a 9 hole course, so keep that in mind.
Any suggestions for the Reynolds intern events next year?
I think an intern canoe trip or golf outing would be fun!
We’re excited to see what’s next for Liam and how he will grow this upcoming school year!
